55 South

The moment the brown paper was removed, I ran over to 55 South to check out the Creole Cuisine.  I mean with the Saints going to the Super Bowl who doesn't want to?  As you walk in, the chalkboard on the wall boasts the Happy Hour Specials - Oysters on the Half Shell.  The waiter recommended the chargrilled oysters.  I have to say- they were good.  The garlic lemon butter and Parmesan cheese made the oysters melt in your mouth.  Next, I tried the BBQ Shrimp and Blue Cheese Grits.  I have to say although it sounds interesting, I was disappointed.  The sauce the shrimp was in conflicted with the taste of the grits and the shrimp seemed overcooked.   Finally, I had a cajun standby- Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya.  It tasted like it came from a box of Zatarains overloaded with Tabasco sauce.  All in all, I left let down.  I was looking forward to a good downtown Franklin restaurant.
